SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b4a7973 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b4a7973\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>All clubs must comply with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worksafe.govt.nz\/managing-health-and-safety\/getting-started\/introduction-hswa-special-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health\u00a0and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA)<\/a><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">\u00a0which<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">means that your club has the duty of\u00a0<\/span>care to maintain a safe environment and implement sound health and safety practices for all staff\/volunteers, members, participants, guests &amp; bystanders. HSWA has a key focus on proactively identifying and managing risks to avoid harm from occurring.<\/p><p>Your club must have documented H&amp;S Policies and Safety Management Systems\/plans outlining how it will ensure the health and safety of anyone involved in its activities. These systems should include hazard\/risk management, safety checklists, emergency procedures and\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">accident reporting.<\/span><\/p><p>Failure to fulfil your duty of care that results in an incident that was reasonably forseeable or preventable\u00a0could lead to prosecution by WorkSafe or Maritime NZ . Club officers could be found personally liable, so compliance is vital to ensure committee members are protected.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">CRNZ recommends the minimum Club H&amp;S documentation and policies required are:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">Club Health and Safety Plan incl. RAMS, operating procedures and emergency\/incident procedures.<\/span><\/li><li>Club Code of Conduct<\/li><li>Member protection\/Child Protection Policy<\/li><li>Privacy Policy<\/li><li>Complaints Policy<\/li><li>Disciplinary Policy<\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">\u00a0CRNZ has developed templates to support clubs in ensuring they meet their H&amp;S obligations, however we do recommend you seek legal advice to ensure the club is covered.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d65e21e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d65e21e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">CLUB HEALTH &amp; SAFETY OFFICER<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1dcca91 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1dcca91\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The Committee should allocate a\u00a0<b>Health &amp; Safety Officer<\/b>\u00a0to make sure the club understands and is meeting its health and safety responsibilities.\u00a0<span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); margin-bottom: 0px !important;\">Their role is to ensure the club\u2019s health and safety policies are implemented, maintained\/reviewed and followed.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); margin-bottom: 0px !important;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">Health &amp; Safety Officer duties include:<\/span><\/p><ul><li>Ensuring the club has the H&amp;S plans, policies and procedures in place as required.<\/li><li>Conduct regular reviews on H&amp;S plans, policies and procedures to ensure they are relevant and up to date.<\/li><li>Keep up to date on laws, maritime rules and local bylaws\u00a0 and ensure club\/paddler compliance.<\/li><li>Act as first point of contact for H&amp;S incidents, issues or non-compliance.<\/li><li>Report at committee meetings on\u00a0H&amp;S at the club (incidents, updates)<\/li><li>Alongside the commitee, develop and maintain a club culture where Health<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-996e7d1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"996e7d1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">CHILD SAFEGUARDING AND PROTECTION<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d7a1a16 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d7a1a16\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Children and young people have a fundamental right to be safe, to be treated with respect and have positive play, recreational activity and sport experiences.
