We are concerned with the way in which the decision was made, and also the lack of long-term strategic focus and communication from the ICF.<\/p><p>For background information on the ICF\u2019s decision and the reaction of federations and athletes, please see the following links:<\/p><ul><li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/5c8a203ac46f6d6629eac1f4\/t\/5fcbfdf52bc78848529f6e93\/1607204341708\/2020.12.02+NFs_ICF_Paris+2024+Programme.pdf\">letter<\/a> from 20 national federations (including CRNZ), supported by a number of prominent athletes, questioning the ICF\u2019s decision-making process.<\/li><li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/globalathlete.org\/our-word\/athletes-call-on-the-international-canoe-federation-to-revoke-2024-decision\">press release\u00a0<\/a>via Global Athlete, an athlete advocacy platform;<\/li><li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/international-canoe-federation-revoke-the-vote-9cbf3db3-7f8f-44d3-8e8d-8ed17961539f?redirect=false\">petition<\/a> to the ICF and IOC signed by over 7000 athletes;<\/li><li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/5c8a203ac46f6d6629eac1f4\/t\/5fcbfd8d2bc78848529f6462\/1607204237805\/ICF+Athlete+proposition+.pdf\">letter<\/a> signed by 55 Olympic medallists;<\/li><li>Various news articles on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canoeicf.com\">ICF website<\/a><\/li><\/ul><p>Although the removal of K1 200 events will be a great disappointment, we are confident that our athletes and coaches will continue to work towards CRNZ\u2019s vision of being the world\u2019s best paddling nation. Lisa Carrington\u2019s dominance in the K1 200m event has left an indelible legacy in that event. But our team has also achieved consistent success over the longer distances. Lisa is the current World Champion in the K1 500m, and Caitlin Ryan holds the world\u2019s best time over the same distance. The pair have combined to win a World Championship in the K2.
