Part 2 of the CRNZ Coaching Symposium occurred over the weekend and coaches were treated to expertise of the highest level with 5 interactive learning sessions lead by NZ\u2019s top experts in the fields.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One attendee said \u201cHaving the chance to connect with the people working in high performance sport and peers across the country was fantastic. I picked up so many practical tips that are great for grassroots paddling and sports coaching in general.\u201d<\/p>\n

The theme was based around \u201cPrinciple-led Performers\u201d and despite being online there were many opportunities for coaches to interact and connect with each other and the presenters. The symposium hosted a range of participants from Olympic to club coaches from different paddling disciplines and even a few coaches from land-based sports.<\/p>\n

Saturday morning saw coaches reconnect and and reflect on their take-aways from part one back in November. Paul McAlpine, HPSNZ Performance and Technique Analyst, then expanded on the CRNZ Principles of Technique and explored the complexities of analysing technique. \u00a0Tristan Collins from the HPSNZ Coaching team explored the concepts around purposeful feedback.<\/p>\n

On the second day Dom Vettise, Performance Psychologist, presented on creating positive paddling environments. This was an insightful workshop and included providing some tools to implement some of these processes within our coach groups. Finally, HPSNZ Performance physiologist Mathew Mildenhall discussed the physiological demands of sprint kayaking and how this influences training program design.<\/p>\n

We thank\u00a0 facilitator Tristan Collins and all the presenters for their time, effort and passion they shared with the group. Thank you also to all attendees, who approached the forum with an open mind and a learning mindset. It resulted in strong connections, great discussions and learning.<\/p>\n

Keep an out on CRNZ and Paddler for further coach development opportunities throughout 2022.<\/p>\n

We will be running a Coach Connection Zoom on Tuesday 5th<\/sup> April – 7.30pm<\/strong>. This informal virtual get together is for attendees and any other coaches to share your learnings, and give you another opportunity to connect with each other.<\/p>\n
