The team have arrived in Komatsu after a long flight to Tokyo as well as and overnight stay there.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

There are a lot of nerves topped with such excitement at being in Japan. Not only is it the first international competition for a lot of the young paddlers (U16, U18, U21) but for some it is their first time overseas.<\/p>\n

The regatta provides great experience for them and being involved with the Japanese culture will be really eye opening for everyone.<\/p>\n

The travelling contingent were greeted at Komatsu airport by Japanese paddlers, local school children, representatives from the Japanese federation and some local media.<\/p>\n

It was amazing to have such a warm welcome.<\/p>\n

Monday was the first training day in Komatsu. It was a calm hot day and was 28 degrees and\u00a0 a few athletes were reminded about the importance of a lot of sunblock.<\/p>\n

Training went well and boats were selected for competition later in the week.<\/p>\n

The afternoon was filled with some cultural activities in different groups. There was a sake brewery tour, Japanese sweet making and Magatama workshop (bead making).<\/p>\n

Another group of paddlers explored the local area. Everyone is enjoying learning about the culture and the food is delicious.<\/p>\n

Today our team were joined by a small team from the Philippines in the hotel and tomorrow the Australian team will be here so the atmosphere will be really different.<\/p>\n

Tuesday will also be the first double training day so it promises to will be a busy one.

\nThe team will be training every day this week before the opening ceremony on Thursday afternoon (29th) followed by two and a half days of competition from 30th September to October 2nd.<\/span><\/p>\n

Racing is comprised of 200m, 500m and 1000m with team relays on Sunday.<\/p>\n
