The 3rd day of the 2023 ICF Junior and Under 23 Canoe Sprint Worlds was a lot quieter for the Kiwi team but it was no less exciting. Once again they came away with some amazing results, coming 1st and 2nd in heats as well as the Mixed U23 K2 booking their spot in the 500m A final.\u00a0<\/b>

U23 Mixed K2 500m crew Julia Padrutt and Kacey Ngataki had a superb semi final, placing 3rd to qualify for the A final which will be raced Sunday night NZT.<\/span><\/p>\n

The B final for the U23 K4 Men 500m was the first race of the day. Our New Zealand crew of Daniel Brown, Grant Clancy, Fletcher Moles and Kacey Ngataki finished in 7th place. An effort they can be very proud of.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thomas MacGibbon had a stellar performance in his K1 U23 Men 500m heat, taking out first place in a photo finish race with Bryde Nikolaj of Denmark coming in second. The semi final will be raced at 1.53am NZT tonight, Saturday 8th July.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

In the U23 K1 1000m both Grant Clancy (North Shore Canoe Club) and Emma Kemp (Mana Kayak Club) progressed through their heats into the semi finals, where they each finished 4th. Emma Kemp will race her B final in the first race of the day on Saturday at 6.30pm NZT, followed by Grant Clancy\u2019s B final at 10.28pm NZT.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Our K1 U23 and Junior Women Lucy Matahaere (U23) and Greer Morley (Junior) both claimed second place in their 500m heats, securing their spots in the semi final.<\/span><\/p>\n

All round day 3 showed the strength of our U23 and Junior athletes, we\u2019re excited to see what the semi finals and finals bring. Just two more days of racing in store in Italy, see tonight’s race schedule below.<\/span><\/p>\n
